Hosting Sales - Design or Service?
Many people ask themselves this question, but daren't try and come up with the answer.
Are hosting sales powered by the design of the website, or the service in which the site provides?
Most hosts go over and above on a high quality website JUST to sell their products. The purpose of a high quality professional website is so much more than that. When a hosting company shells out hundreds or thousands on a top quality website, it's not just to sell their services (in most cases). It's to show its visitors how much care and dedication they have thrown into making a successful and memorable brand.
On the other side of the coin, you get the hosting companies with utter crap designs for websites, but offer the best quality uptime and support services.
Is there any mediation? If so, post some links and explain why

I think the design has a massive impact for hosting companies. Sure, service and quality of the hosting is important but customers aren't going to know if what they are buying is reliable, fast etc until they have signed up.
The image a host represents is fundamental to its success, no one is going to signup to a hosting provider using a boxedart template (well not anyone i know anyway), because we assume the owner is a 13 year old kid with no knowledge and someone who obviously doesn't care enough about his business to get a decent design.
Webhosts need eye candy to convert their leads and a killer website does just this, sure you need a great product as well, but what is the good of an amazing service, excellent support and the highest spec servers if you aren't creating sales, through a well designed and functional website?

Personally, I feel that it is the professionalism they display. If there site is more professional and the content sounds more promising and is written more upper scale english, then they'd probally win the client rather then the competitor.
oh and robson...about the 13 year old thing ...I am 14 and am opening a hosting business and a web design company...look forward to seeing it within a few months.

Basically, I've always thought that it's a design that sells to the customer, and the service that keeps them coming back.

n0vi,
Some have unprofessional template but their support is good.
Some have professional template but their support is poor.

Service is really important than design.

well service is more important than design no doubt but thats not what we are talkiing about here. . . for general users if the site has a good profesional look they would no doubt chose that company, so which part actually sells for the company i would have to say design does the leg work
