Apple FTW. They make great notebooks though they cost it a bit more. Really Dell's, HP's etc.. are pretty similar apart from their look soo go with whatever you think has the best value and performance. What price budget are you on?

Personally I'd either go with Apple or HP

Dell: Stay away from dell, don't touch them with a 100ft poll. They are the AOL of computer vendors.
Apple: Apple is completely different since you will be getting a mac that can also run windows. Do you want to pay the extra to get mac? If not get a windows only laptop.
HP: I have no experience with HP passed their printers.
I have a Compaq laptop, it works great.

Alienware FTW, they should sell these in shops instead of just online. Would surpass Apple for performance and quality by miles, i've used both which had a similar spec, alienware was way faster than the mac. (both notebooks).

Alienwares have cool cases, but they are grossly overpriced for their specs.

I bought an Alienware last year, returned it to buy a MBP. Wasn't a huge fan of them.

Hahahaha, alienware, their basically a dell with a new case and they charge an extra $500 for it. If you want a performance laptop go with a ASUS. Though a HP/Compaq make pretty reliable laptops. You could also consider Acer if you want a budget machine.
