searching tags trhough wordpress (please read)
I'm thinking about using wordpress to build a website of "things to do in my area". Basically, it will be a list of stores, shops, bars, entertainment and restaurants. Here is how I was thinking of making it...
Categories. Each category will be its own type of thing to do (ie. Bar).
Tags. For each category there will be tags. The tags will be Location, price range and style.
This might be hard to explain, but I want to have a drop down menu for each category. On that dropdown menu, the user will be able to choose a location, a price range or style. Here is where the issue comes. If I search by, say location, is it possible to ONLY search that location (or tag) by the category the user selected?
the other issue is the fact that if each post has 3 tags, will I be able to manually split the ones apart? Again, if I made a list of the location tags for a category, I would need to be able to pull out all the location ones, make a list. Then pull out the price range ones, make a list. and than take out the style tags and turn them into a list also.
I was thinking tags would be easy if I could get them to work, because I wouldn't have to worry about any plugins. I don't think there are any plugins that would help me, but if there are let me know!
p.s. As for questions, because I'm not sure how clear I made it sound :/

Why you don't use custom fields ? or even adding fields to the database ?

I honestly never thought about that. I never really used Wordpress that much other than for the basics. How does it work?

Again though, the problem I see is the fact that I only want certain categories to be shown, so by using these custom fields they would have to act only within their category. So when someone clicks on 'Minneapolis' when looking for a bar, it will display only bars that are located within Minneapolis.
