Old  Do you have a TOS?

Hi,

I'm just wondering if you have a Terms Of Service, which you ask your client to agree on before beginning work? If so, would anyone mind sharing theirs? I'm thinking about writing my own and I'm looking for some pointers.

Thanks,
Steven

No, but I really ought to write one.

Getting fed up of clients contacting me weeks down the line, complaining about them breaking their code. |:

Well, I haven't started any paid work yet, but I'm considering writing one up. I personally think it's a really smart move, because if you don't establish any ground rules anything goes and that can mean disaster. It doesn't have to be super-detailed, but it's best to cover your bases, such as liability, pricing, payment options, etc. But you probably knew that already.

You could also clearly state what you will do and won't do in terms of the work (ie. will do php/html/css/js, no flash). And you could look at some TOSes from different websites and forums (if you haven't already) to get an idea of what you may need.

So to answer your question, yes I think I would write one up, just to be on the safe side.

Would the contract in the top thread of this forum cover your requirements?

I've actually already have that, though I haven't read it the whole way through. I'll do that now and see if it covers what I'm looking for. Thanks for reminding me about that, Julian.

Faceless - Thanks for that.

Indy - Indy, I have similar problems (not exactly the same) which is why I want to write one.

That contract goes into a lot of detail. Since I will be creating my TOS for coding only, a lot of it is irrelevant. But it has gave me a guide to creating my own. Thanks again for sharing this with everyone.

I've finished creating my Terms Of Service, it follows the same ideals as Julian's does (once again, thanks for sharing). I feel mine now covers everything that I need, however I would appreciate it if someone could review it for me.

Thanks,
Steven

I can look over it if you want to, unless you want someone who has written one already. Your call.
