New California Law
I was curious on your opinions on how, well thought out it was! (sarcasm)
So, I can't talk on the phone on the road...but I can text message, I can use AIM, I can watch YouTube, I can check my email, which requires looking down, not up.
I mean, if your going to disallow a person to talk on a phone, in my opinion it's just as bad as having a passenger in the car. They can both be just as disruptive, but you need to learn how to handle them. I rarely use my phone in my truck (only for the iPod really). Occasionally I might get a call, or I need to call my parents once again, just quick 1 minute calls. I risk it, because for the 2-3 times I use my phone every day, I am not going to get a headset so I can look like a retard. (Not saying you do, but yah...)
Your opinions?

It's not as bad because your passenger sees the road so he may react to something happening on the road.

I am sorry, but if you think the passenger can do anything more than you on a phone can...just drop the damned phone if you see something going on. If it's that important, pull over and talk while cars are being piled up .
Of course I am not ruling it out, but I think its about as lucky as a bird hitting your grill and living.

As gareth said, it's been here in the UK for a couple of years now, it's a good law in my opinion - easy to avoid and it stops a few more morons crashing.

The majority of people won't take any notice. Even though everyone in the UK knows about the law, I still see people every day talking on their mobiles while driving.

Yeah it happens, but most of the people i know if they are getting a call will ignore it and pull over when they can to take it/ring back. People will do it at their own risk, but know that if the police sees they will get fined (not sure about points)

Yeah it's no biggy...just get a decent kit wired into your car, that can connect to your phone via Bluetooth, then no worries at all. If anything it's easier to drive with the kit.
