That is one of the main reasons that frames have died. They also look amateurish and unprofessional IMO.

Most of the people that used to use frames probably did because of how much easier it was to update sites with frames. Without frames, If you wanted to add a new page you would have to go through every page on the site and add the link to the new page. With frames you would only have to change 1 page.

This most probably started changing when more servers started to support server side languages that allowed you to make content management systems.
