IMO the brandmark (icon, whatever you want to call it) is not doing its job as intended. It is a nice piece of artwork but the whole idea is to convey a strong - recognisable - brand image. How about disregarding the highlights and extras that you have put on there and just starting with the "i" and surrounding rounded-rectangle. Building a recognisable logo can be difficult at times, I guess only experience can help but there are certainly pointers to avoid - the pseudo-3d/metallic textures are a no-no (for me at least).
Maybe I am just letting my own style shine through here, but how about trying just to "go simple" - I find working in B&W when making a logo (literally just two colours) can help distract from just making the work look "pretty".
