I don't think anyone inferred that they were, but I bet you feel a little more comfortable if you know when entering personal information that it's encrypted between you and the site your posting it too?

And when it comes to financial information or ecommerce then No SSL = No Sale.

For $14 a year it really is a small price to pay.
