The best program to use for 3d modelling is probably maya, although 3d studio max is also very powerful and reasonably easy to learn or so i'm finding. If you can afford the price tag (think it's close to $2,000) and you're willing to put aside a few hours a day learning it i'm sure you can be a decent modeller in a month or two

I agree. Maya is industry standard for movies, but 3DSMax is the industry standard for gaming. But both can basically do the same thing as eachother.
