James, that's exactly what I am doing, and it's $30 cheaper!!! I only realised after posting that, that I selected the 2mb cache one by mistake.

Basically it says the 8600GT is a joke, not worth it for DX10 capabilities, especially considering DX10 games will be a long way off from being the norm. It is way outperformed by the 7600GT in almost every benchmark test, so why upgrade simply for DX10 compatibility?

Gille, the E6420 is still the best bang for the buck, it's the most overclockable cpu for the price. Cost wise the whole computing system is very cheap, $792 New Zealand, but doesn't include monitor/case/psu/hdd/dvdrw/floppy/keyboard/mouse.

Vizon, I live in New Zealand so I am purchasing from New Zealand suppliers. Also read the review on the 7600/8600 GT cards (I liked to it above)
